My name is Lucie, I am from France and I live in Oxford where I am currently an MA Publishing student at Oxford Brookes University. Passionate about books and graphic design, I have many experiences in the publishing industry as I have two publishing degrees from France and worked in different publishing houses.
I have a deep interest in everything related to book cover design and layout design, especially in independent publishing. I am very interested in illustration, typography and photography and I would like to become a book cover designer. My main influences are taken from publishing houses such as Penguin Books (Particular Books, Penguin Classics, Hamish Hamilton, VINTAGE), Taschen, Draw Down Books, Laurence King Publishing, Pyramyd Éditions (France), but also by independent magazines such as Oh Comely Mag, Cereal Mag (Pics and Ink), and Étapes Magazine (France).
Being very influenced by minimalist graphic design, I like to create simple and clear layout finding innovative ways to highlight my own. During my masters, I self-published a magazine (Queer Project), created a non-fiction publishing house with its book collection (Éditions des Visages) as well as a booklet for a children’s exhibition (Les P’tits Bouquineurs).
I also like to design other formats and I have recently worked as an events coordinator for a scientific and technical event (the Festival de robotique de Cachan) where I managed the production of graphic support.
My present work is really concerned about the importance and the future of the reader’s community as a whole as well as finding new and innovative formats and contents in the print industry at the age of digital. My future project is to develop a book collection and create a new magazine that’s innovative in content and format.
